Water type fire extinguishers are most preferred to tackle Class A (ordinary solids) fires involving common combustible materials such as wood, plastics and paper. These fire extinguishers should never be used on electrically actuated fires. Because of their effectiveness against fires involving everyday combustible materials water type fire extinguishers are preferred in most residential and commercial buildings. Water type fire extinguishers works on cooling principle. When extinguisher is operated by spraying a jet of water onto the fire, it penetrates the blaze resulting in flames being extinguished.
